Safety on Site (SOS) Program

Safety On Site (SOS) fulfills the employee portion of UC Irvine's implementation of the Injury & Illness Prevention Plan. SOS integrates safety into the workplace, a role ALL employees have at UC Irvine.

The importance of SOS is emphasized by:

  • Cal/OSHA - California Code of Regulations, Title 8, Section 3203, Injury and Illness Prevention Program (IIPP) states that every employer shall establish, implement and maintain an effective IIPP.
  • The University of California Presidential Policy on Management of Health, Safety and the Environment. SOS effectively integrating safety into each campus work unit, leading to a decrease in frequency and costs of workplace injuries.

The California Code of Regulations Title 8, Section 3203, Injury and Illness Prevention Program (IIPP) states that every employer shall establish, implement and maintain an effective injury and Illness Prevention Plan (IIPP). The Safety On Site (SOS) program is UCI's implementation of the Injury & Illness Prevention Plan. UCI’s SOS program integrates safety into the workplace, a responsibility that all employees at UC Irvine have. By integrating safety into our workplace, we minimize injuries, reduce Workers’ Compensation costs, and create a safety culture. The UCI Ethics and Compliance Committee actively and enthusiastically supports this program.
