Chemical Classes

EHS reviews certain chemical classes and specific chemicals when they are requested for purchase by campus departments. In our review, EHS considers the hazards of utilizing the chemical, the process in which the chemical is used, control measures that the user should take, the effect on Maximum Allowable Quantities (MAQs) in the control area in which the lab is located, and a few other factors. EHS may reach out with questions and also request additional information from you and your lab before approving the chemical purchase.
The chemicals listed below are grouped by hazard class and may be updated periodically. This list is not exhaustive and specific chemicals may not be listed. If the chemical in question is classified in one or several of these hazard classes, EHS needs to review the purchase request.
