Field Safety

Overview

Field research can present many challenges that a researcher may not have anticipated or planned for as they perform the work. Field sites may include uncontrolled – or natural – environments such as natural reserves, wilderness areas, coastline/waterways, or controlled environments such as excavation sites or mines. Inclement weather, wildlife, and harmful plants are just a few of many potential factors that could interfere with planned activities. The following resources have been compiled to help UCI field researchers develop plans to work safely off-campus, outdoors, and at international sites.
