Updated November 7, 2023 | 12 p.m.

The UCI dive and boating program provides for safety support, logistics and training to researchers and students. The program is run through the UC Dive and Boat Safety Consortium. The consortium is a partnership between UCI, UCB, UCM, UCOP, and UCSB.

The Program meets all federal (OSHA), state (Cal/OSHA) and UC codes and requirements, and follows the standards set by the American Academy of Underwater Sciences (AAUS) and the program guidelines of the Scientific Boating Safety Association (SBSA). The consortium will provide the following to UCI:

  • Dive control board
  • Dive safety officer(s)
  • Policy for scientific dive and boating activities
  • Dive planning review and approval process
  • Dive and boating checklist(s)
  • Dive training (As Required)
  • Emergency Management plans
  • Accident/Injury investigation and review

Activities are coordinated through UCI based on the UC consortium’s dive and boating safety manual and dive control board. The consortium ensures dive and boating compliance with the US Coast Guard, the California Department of Boating and Waterways and the Scientific Boating Safety Association.
